ABI/Inform (ProQuest Direct)

-----ABI/INFORM Global indexes and abstracts articles from over 1,000 general business, management and international business publications. Subject coverage includes: accounting and auditing, banking, data processing and information management, economics, finance, management, health care, human resources, insurance, law and taxation, management science, marketing, advertising, sales management, new product development, personnel, employee benefits, and labor relations, public administration and government, real estate, and telecommunications. ProQuest Direct is a UMI online information service providing access to an extensive collection of newspapers, journals, periodicals, magazines, and other information sources. Full text for many of the articles is provided in ASCII full-text format, or UMI's Text+Graphics format. The ABI/INFORM Global database only has been licensed for use at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical center (controlled by IP address).

Academic Press Electronic Journals

------Academic Press provides an online journal library of over 175 scientific journals called IDEAL. The journals in IDEAL may be browsed and searched. Abstracts and tables of contents are presented in HTML. The articles in the journals are delivered in Adobe Acrobat format. (Adobe Acrobat is available from the Public file server.) Carl UnCover(WWW Version)

------ UnCover contains the tables of contents from over 17,000 English language journals in many disciplines. Over 5000 current citations are added daily. Users may search for authors, keywords from article titles, or may browse the contents of a journal issue by issue. CARL also provides UnCover Reveal; an automated alerting service that delivers the table of contents of your favorite periodicals directly to your e-mail box. The Reveal service also allows users to create search strategies for topics of their choice. These search strategies are then run against the entire UnCover database and alerts on the latest articles published on the desired topics or in specified journals are delivered to the user's e-mail address.

ClariNet News(Requires Kerberos)

------The ClariNet News is a live news feed offering general, international, sports, technology, entertainment and financial news, as well as special features and columns. This service is licensed for use at Dartmouth College

Columbia International Affairs Online

------Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is designed to be the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range of scholarship from 1991 on that includes journal issues and books, working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series, policy briefs and economic indicators from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, and proceedings from conferences. It also contains web based links and resources and a schedule of events. Each section of CIAO is updated with new material on a regular schedule. CIAO has been licensed for use at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical center (controlled by IP address).

Congressional Quarterly

------The CQ Library service provides web access to Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report and CQ Researcher. Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report provides comprehensive non-partisan legislative news and analysis for what is happening on Capitol Hill; it is full-text going back to 1983. CQ Researcher covers the most current and controversial issues of the day with summaries, insight into all sides of the issues and bibliographies; it is full-text going back to November, 1991. Electronic Journals on the WWW

------ The Dartmouth College Library subscribes to many electronic journals. Each journal the library supplies access to is cataloged, and can be located by searching under "journal title" in the Dartmouth Library Catalog file. A hotlink is provided from each record which opens a connection to the internet site where the journal is located. Ethnic NewsWatch

------Ethnic NewsWatch (ENW) is a comprehensive full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press. Continuously growing since 1991, with archival material back to 1985, Ethnic NewsWatch is now a collection of more than 470,000 full-text articles from over 200 publications. Searchable in both English and Spanish, with titles in both languages and more than 100,000 articles in Spanish, ENW in-depth coverage of a wide range of current and topics easily accessed using free text and fielded searching. Facts.com (Facts on File)

-----FACTS.com brings together content from seven core reference databases to answer questions about events, issues, statistics and people. The seven databases are Facts On File World News Digest, Issues and Controversies On File, Today's Science On File, Editorials On File, Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia, Reuters On-Line News Service, and The World Almanac and Book of Facts. FACTS.com includes broad multidisciplinary coverage of events from 1980 to date. It also provides in-depth features on "Historic Events" drawn from the Facts On File archive, 1940 to date. Other special features include maps, photographs, historic documents, and overviews of key issues, newsmakers and events since 1980. FACTS.com is updated every week. First Search/WorldCat

------WorldCat (the OCLC Union Catalog) includes over 40 million records representing 400 languages. The database includes books, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, maps, computer data files, manuscripts, sound recordings and any other type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. Gender Watch

------GenderWatch is a full-text collection of international journals, magazines, newsletters, regional publications, special reports and conference proceedings devoted to women's and gender issues. The database provides in-depth coverage of the subjects that are uniquely central to women's daily lives, including family, childbirth, birth control, daycare, domestic abuse, work and the workplace, sexual harassment, aging, aging parents, body image, eating disorders and social and societal roles. It also includes content on the impact of gender and gender roles on areas such as: the arts, popular culture and media, business and work, crime and criminology, education, research and scholarship, family, health care and medicine, politics, policy and legislation, pornography, religion, sexuality and sexology, sports and leisure. GenderWatch contains a significant body of archival material dating back to the mid 1970's. Additional archival material continues to be added, making GenderWatch a repository of information providing an important historical perspective on the evolution of women's and gender issues over the last fifteen to twenty years. Inside Information

------ WWW connection to the Research Libraries Group (RLG) Inside Information file. The Inside Information file is the world's largest current awareness file, containing records describing articles in 21,000 of the British Library Document Supply Centre's most requested journals and magazines. Coverage includes mainly North American and European titles, most in English. Subject coverage: Universal Dates of coverage: January 1996 to present This interface requires Netscape Navigator version 2.02 or later. The RLG system is available Eastern Time: 11 a.m. Saturday through midnight Friday. Licensed for use by Dartmouth College.

International Bibliography of Book Reviews

------The IBR is an interdisciplinary index, international in scope, that provides access to book reviews in leading scholarly journals. Approximately 60,000 entries are added each year. Coverage is chiefly in the arts and humanities and in the social sciences from 1995 to date. Licensed for use by Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (controlled by IP address).

Internationale Bibliographie der Zeitschriftenliteratur (IBZ)

-----The IBZ Online (International Bibliography of Periodical Literature) is a universal index of periodical literature covering basic research from all fields of knowledge, and is particularly strong in the humanities and the social sciences. Over 5,600 periodicals are indexed by this multilingual database, now containing over 2 million records since the publication year 1987. It is international in scope, and indexes a significant proportion of the periodicals published on the European continent. International Political Science Abstracts

------International Political Science Abstracts is published by the International Political Science Association. It provides abstracts of political science articles published in scholarly journals and yearbooks worldwide. Topics include method and theory; political thinkers and ideas; political and administrative institutions; political process (public opinion, attitudes, parties, forces, groups, elections); international relations; and national and area studies. Approximately 95% of the records include abstracts, with most written in English and the remainder in French (for articles in languages other than English). Titles in other languages are always translated into English. IPSA makes a special effort to include articles about the countries for which information is scarce. Coverage is from 1989 to date. JSTOR Electronic Journal Archive

------JSTOR is a project sponsored by the Mellon Foundation to convert the back issues of paper journals into electronic formats that would allow savings in space while simultaneously improving access to the journal content. JSTOR will provide the complete runs of a minimum of 100 important journal titles in 10-15 fields within 3 years. Their WWW pages list the currently available titles which are in the fields of ecology, economics, history and political science. Lexis-Nexis Universe

------Does this really need a description? LEXIS-NEXIS UNIVERSE is a web-based news and business information service that contains more than 13,500 sources. These include regional, national and international newspapers, news wires, magazines, trade journals and business publications. It also includes major archives of federal and state case law, continuously updated statutes of all 50 states, and state and federal regulations. Legal news and law journals are also available. Files in LEXIS-NEXIS are updated throughout the day. LEXIS-NEXIS is licensed for use at Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (controlled by IP address).

PAIS International

-----PAIS International is a bibliographic index with abstracts covering political, social, and public policy issues. Topics covered include economic, political, and social issues, business, finance, law, international trade, international relations, public administration, government and political science. The database covers selected journal articles, books, chapters in books, statistical sources, and government documents from 1972 to date. Philosopher's Index

-----Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts to journal articles, books, and book chapters in philosophy and related fields from 1940 to the present. Coverage of non-English journal articles began in 1967, and non-English books in 1980. It covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysic logic as well as material on the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language. The online version of Philosopher's Index does not include book reviews. For book reviews, consult the print volumes (Baker Reference Z/7127/P45). Social Sciences Citation Index

------Social Sciences Citation Index covers 1,700 journals in the social and behavioral sciences, including management, law and economics, from 1974 to present. The file is updated weekly, and includes abstracts of the articles from 1991 to present. The Web of Science search interface features include cited reference searching, keyword searching, and related record linking. The database is licensed by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), for use at Dartmouth College (controlled by IP address).

Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory

-----Ulrich's provides users with essential serials bibliographic and access information that ranges from subscription rates to the latest web sites. Nearly a quarter of a million consumer and trade magazines, academic and scholarly publications, monographic series, newsletters, newspapers, electronic publications, 'zines, and many other types of serial publications and services published throughout the world on all subjects are profiled. Bibliographic information includes ISSN, former ISSN(s) and former title(s) history, variant titles, editorial and classification data, start year, frequency, pricing, subscription, and distribution details. Key publisher, editor, rights & permissions and advertising contacts are given. Various access options are noted: document delivery, indexing services, and online vendors. -----Recommended by Dartmouth Library Services. This service can tell you where a certain journal is indexed and whether it is available in full text online(Lexis-Nexis, Proquest, etc). It also can usually tell you how far back the indexing goes, which is a useful feature. You can search by standard journal title abbreviations, so that you can find out the full title of a journal by searching on its abbreviated title that appears in a bibliography.

Government Printing Office

------GPO Access, an online service of the U. S. Government Printing Office, was mandated by Public Law 103-40 in 1993. It is one part of the office's transition to a more electronic era of information dissemination. The service provides access to select Federal Government information including the Federal Register, the Congressional Record the United States Code, and more. Files in GPO Access are provided in different formats. All files are available in plain (ASCII) text. Some are also available as PDF (Portable Display Format) files which display a facsimile of the original publication. PDF files require Adobe Acrobat Reader software which is shareware, and can be found on the World Wide Web at http://www.adobe.com/Acrobat/readstep.html. The Dartmouth College Library has been a Federal Depository Library since 1884.

Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals

Index to Legal Periodicals

------Index to Legal Periodicals (ILP) is a bibliographic database, created by H. W. Wilson Company, that cites articles from more than 615 legal periodicals. Coverage includes law reviews, bar association journals, university publications, yearbooks, institutes and government publications published in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and new Zealand. ILP covers all areas of jurisprudence, including recent court decisions, new legislation, and original scholarship. Articles must be at least five pages, and other materials at least two pages in order to qualify for inclusion. It also includes citations to conference papers and proceedings, government documents, industry reports, newspapers, and project reports. These publications cover such fields as management, technology, planning, law, political science, economics, geology, biology, and chemistry as they relate to environmental issues. Document Availability: Many items in Enviroline are available on microfiche in the Envirofiche Collection [358F] in the Jones Microtext Center. Availability is indicated in the Location Field of the record. Those items not in the Envirofiche Collection may be in the Library System.
